In March 2010, the annual “Textbooks and Teaching” section of the Journal of American History will focus on the theme of “Teaching U.S. History Abroad.” Essays of 10-12 pages may be submitted for consideration, by e-mail to contributing editor Scott Casper (casper＠unr.edu), no later than June 1, 2009.

Of particular interest are essays that address the experience of teaching particular topics in American history at colleges and universities outside the United States. Essays might consider, for example, the challenges and opportunities in teaching some specific field or issue in U.S. history in a particular political, social, or cultural milieu; new pedagogical approaches developed as a result of teaching U.S. history outside the United States; or insights into U.S. history or contemporary global relations gained from the experience of teaching American history abroad.

The section editor, Scott Casper (casper＠unr.edu), welcomes queries and proposals for potential topics and essays.
