国際教養大学専任教員公募のお知らせ[募集終了]

Position
This is a newly established undergraduate teaching position in the North American Studies concentration of the Global Studies Program.

Qualifications: Persons with a Ph.D. and some teaching experience are preferred, but consideration will be given to applicants who are close to completing their Ph.D. and who have some practical and/or teaching experience. Preference will be given to those who can teach a variety of undergraduate courses about United States culture, society, history and politics.

Contract terms: The successful applicant will be offered a three year renewable teaching contract dated from September 1, 2008 when the fall term begins. (The university is, however, preparing to adopt a tenure system.) The normal teaching load is three courses per semester.

Salary and Benefits: Salaries are competitive with international standard. A relocation allowance is provided: airfare and household moving expenses. Faculty receives an annual “education research fund” to support research and related travel. The university rents for faculty either a modern house or apartment, and pays 70% of the rent. Japanese national medical insurance and other benefits are available to faculty.

Akita International University (AIU) is a highly competitive, three year old liberal arts institution established to serve as a model for the reform of the Japanese higher education system. AIU’s president is a member of the Prime Minister’s Education Rebuilding Council. All courses are taught in English, which is quite unique in Japan. All Japanese students must study abroad one year prior to graduation. Current enrollment is about 550 Japanese students and 100 international students, with peak enrollment set at 700 students.

Where is AIU? AIU is located one hour by air north of Tokyo in Akita Prefecture, one of Japan’s most scenic regions on the northwest shore of Honshu Island.
