Papers on any topic within the field of American Studies, including those related to this issue's special theme Gender, are welcome.
　This issue will explore the theme of gender from a wide range of disciplinary perspectives, while also reexamining the state of gender studies within the field of American Studies.　In general, we welcome papers that shed light on aspects of American ways of life, society, history, literature, politics, economics, law, art and architecture, and uses of electronic communications media.
　Proposals, consisting of a title and abstract (approximately 300 words), are due by January 20 th 2005, and should be sent to the Editorial Committee, JAAS, c/o Center for Pacific and American Studies, University of Tokyo, 381 Komaba, Meguro-ku, Tokyo 1538902.　The completed manuscripts will be due May 9 th, 2005 (maximum 7000 words, including notes).
